It all started early 2003 when an avid biker and dog lover started to find a way to haul his dog to and from the daily visit Marymoor off-leash dog park. He noticed someone with a dog put in bike trailer made for children, so why not design and build one for dogs. He did some research on the Internet and contacted a factory that would make a prototype. Once he started this prototype several people positively commenting about the idea, so he decided to try a production batch to sell in his mother country, the Netherlands; a bicycle centric market that could accept the idea more easily - and it did. It became an instant success with the brand name becoming synonamous with biking with your dog. In 2004 Discus Huisdierenspeciaalzaak in the Netherlands was the first retail chain that included the dog bike trailer into their assortiment with many others following since.
The initial logo did not include the dog head. Once we started to put our product on the website we got requests from all over the world for our product. In October 2003 a lady sends us the wonderful picture below of her dog asking whether the DoggyRide bicycle trailer would be a good fit to take Snoopy on bike rides. Struck by the begging eyes and hanging ears we asked the owner whether we could use her dog image to become our mascot. The owner agreed and waited for a new production run that included Snoopy in the logo. Snoopy still enjoys riding the DoggyRide and the owner is delighted with the idea that thousands of other dog lovers ride around with her dog on the bicycle trailer.
Another gentleman thought that it could be used as a stroller for his aging goldie to take him to the park and we agreed to make a prototype for him to see if it indeed would work. It appeared to be working well enough that we started producing the stroller kits early 2004 in addition to the trailer. The demand for stroller kits has become so significant that since 2009 we offer the products as stand-alone stroller versions as well. In 2005 we added the crate containment function to one of the models, which is now a standard feature for all our models, including the car seat function.
All of our products are patented and tested according to safety standards. Over the years some knock offs have popped up on the market. Nevertheless, we have continued innovation to make our products the safest, most convenient and versatile dog bike trailer in the market.
